A fun way to expand vocabulary, because unlike my waistline, my vocabulary can never be too wide.

sentient: adjective

1. responsive to or conscious of sense impressions

2. having or understanding knowing or knowledge: aware

3. firmly sensitive in perception or feeling

As an adolescent girl, she was highly sentient  to every criticism her mother gave her, real or simply just perceived.
